Jeff Sherwood is an emerging theatre artist specializing in sound design and engineering. He strives to bring original and innovative ideas in collaboration with creative teams in the art of storytelling. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Design and Production from Oklahoma City University.
As an active member of the United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT) on national, regional, and student chapter levels, Sherwood has received numerous awards from various competitions. At the student design competition during the USITT-SW Winter 2012 Symposium, he received the Meyer Sound Excellence in Sound Design Award for the TheatreOCU and Oklahoma Shakespeare in the Park co-production of Macbeth. In addition to this prestigious honor, he has also received Sound Design Awards from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) Region VI Festival two years in a row.
Other recent recognitions include the USITT Elite Sound Training at Cirque du Soleil Resident Shows Division and the John and Helen Meyer Scholarship for the Live Design Broadway Sound Master Classes (2012).
Reflecting on his life thus far, Sherwood realizes that his passion for sound has really grown through his love of music, and how he can be a part of the music-making process by creating the perfect mix. Fueled by his older cousin’s love for music and concerts, Sherwood became an avid concert-goer in his teenage years. As he attended rock concerts, he recognized the importance of the sound engineer and just how much a good sound engineer can affect the audience’s perception of the performance and art.
In addition to sound design and engineering, he also holds experience in lighting design, lighting hang and focus calls, and basic operation of the ETC EOS Family and Expression series lighting consoles. As an Eagle Scout, Sherwood has infused within himself the scout motto: “Be prepared.” He strives daily to prepare himself for any situation that may arise. He has developed abilities to adapt to new situations and solve problems on-the-fly.
"Jeff has excellent verbal communication skills, is extremely organized, can work independently and is able to follow through to ensure that the job gets done."
