A2 / Deck Sound

Sweet Charity tells the story of a 1960's dance hall hostess seeking true love and looking for more out of life.  As the A2 on the production, I worked closely with the Tony Award-winning sound designer Leon Rothenberg and associate sound designer Danny Erdberg to implement and maintain the sound design.  My responsibilities included shop prep, load-in, building the RF receiver rack and RF Land, creating mic rigs, and working with actors and other departments to maintain consistent mic placement for each performance.

Because of the close proximity of the audience in the 199-seat 3/4-thrust Linney Theatre at the Pershing Square Signature Center, the designer wanted the microphones to be as hidden on the cast as possible.  I worked closely with the Hair & Wigs Supervisor Emily Rosko and Wardrobe Supervisor Kristi Biglin to coordinate transmitter location and mic dressing.

During the load-in and tech process, I worked with the production manager to acquire the necessary perishable items for mic storage and dressing beyond the items purchased through the audio shop.

Shop Prep

The equipment for the show was pulled from PRG Audio in Secaucus, New Jersey. We had a rather quick (3.5 days) turnaround on the shop prep. Equipment was placed into racks and cabled up as designed by the associate sound designer. Every single cable in the system was labeled, following the Broadway standard of electrical tape backing with transparent scotch tape topping to enclose the label. The entire system was then set up, patched, powered up, fully tested, and then packed up in the close-quarters of the build zone.
